I understand the wood pieces holding the insulation but I'm curious why you didn't just put an "X" of liquid nails down and glue it? Wouldn't have blocks of wood all over the walls, cleaner look.
If you are worried about the windows could you use some small black curtains? The vent was a good idea

I use a laundry fabric softener bottle with the pour spout removed instead of the apple sauce jar. The cap and handle make an awesome pee bottle. Good luck and God's speed. Boe
