Akash is an unreliable narrator. Everything other than Sophie's scenes are being narrated by him to Sophie later.
It could also be that it was Akash who had the affair from the start.
Someone understood the movie clearly, In another Remake (Maestro) is ruined in the climax.

Ayushmann is the only young actor(among Hindi film pros)who choses socially relevant and different themes everytime. His new film Chandigarh kaare aashiqui is fine film talking about homosexuality.
