As a nurse, Im tired of the emergency cricothyrotomy being performed with pens and straws and shit. It doesnt happen people. Yeah, this procedure is done in hospitals in emergencies when the patient does not have an airway, but people dont just go around doing in restaurants and shopping malls. As a nurse am I trained how to do it: Yes. But there is literally no situation I can think of where I would have to do one in the hospital setting. It would always be done by a surgeon or anesthesiologist. As for medical professionals doing the procedure in the field, thats just not done. It would be done by a paramedic when they arrive in the ambulance. But like chest tubes made from tubing from a vending machine, this is just movie and TV sensationalism. Real life medical treatments are nothing like the crap they show people on TV. But because of these fictional dramatizations people have such absolutely no idea what goes on in a hospital and when they see the reality, they just end up getting pissed off at the doctors and nurses. I just hate it. Thanks for the listening to me vent.
