Re: The Shining, most of the film was shot at a studio in England. The exterior shown is the Timberline Lodge up at Mt Hood here in Oregon. I think they built the maze at a place somewhere in Colorado.

When you leave Mount Rushmore and are heading East on i-90 plan for a stop in the center of South Dakota in a little town called Murdo. My wife is from there.They have a great little dairy bar hamburger joint there that is family owned. It is very good. Also stop to take a tour of the pioneer Auto museum. I love looking at the old cars. We try and stop there whenever we go there.
